Vanguard’s ATRT-03 Series Turns-Ratio Tester

  • Uncategorized

Transformers are electrical devices designed to convert power from one level to another. Transfer of power is through magnetic induction between the coils and the level conversion of electricity is determined by the ratio of the primary and secondary windings. Transformers offer a non-mechanical way of converting electricity from one level to another. However, even if there are no moving parts, transformers are still prone to failure. A defective transformer can cause serious damage to the electrical system and unexpected expenses.

A good way of detecting impending problems in a transformer is by testing the turns ratio. Transformers may develop partial shorts in the windings due to thermal and electrical stress. When a short develops, the winding turns are reduced which alters the ratio between the coils. This causes a deviation in the operating limits of the transformer and may cause problems during operation.

If you are planning to invest in a turns-ratio tester, you might want to check out devices fromVanguard Test Equipment. Some of the models you might be interested in are the ATRT-03 and the ATRT-03 Series 2. These testers offer automated testing and calculation of ratio deviation. These features can greatly simplify and speed up transformer preventive maintenance.
