Transformers are one of the most important components in an electrical system. The main transformer components had to be lifted out from the tank so a technician could check the core and windings for deformation, partial shorts and other defects. A Sweep Frequency Response Analyzer is a diagnostic tool that offers a non-intrusive method for transformer testing. You can now accurately test transformers in a shorter time and with less effort.

An SFRA helps find defects by injecting a test signal to the windings. The transformer’s RLC characteristics resonates and produces a wide spectrum of frequencies. The generated frequencies serve as the transformer’s “fingerprint”. Changes or defects in the geometry, connections, windings and the core changes the resonant frequency of the transformer, therefore changing the “fingerprint” of the transformer.
