Using the Omicron CMC 356 Universal Relay Test Set and Commissioning Tool enables engineers to have advanced functionality right at their fingertips. Verifying correct wiring is a must for wires coming from cubical terminals to the relay, between instrument transformers and relays as well as between the testing equipment and relay.

The technology on board the CMC 356 makes testing relatively easy and features testing functions such as: wiring check, pick up/drop off, trip time testing and time grading.
Wiring Check
The system’s software features a wiring check, which is easily achieved by injecting different currents into each of three phases to be identified and then making sure each current appears at the correct phase of the relay.
Pick Up & Drop Out
The pickup & drop out icon in the CMC 356 software helps users to determine the pickup value and the reset ratio. With this tool, testing such items as overcurrent, starting value and the fault loop is straightforward. Once completed, other parameters can be input, such as voltage to be applied during measurement. With the unit’s control wheel, the user increases values until starting contact is activated and then reduces that value until automatically calculated reset.
Trip Time Testing
Staging testing using these methods enables users to create pre-fault, fault and post fault conditions. Users are given the ability to generate and implement test sequences to verify that these protective devices are operating according to their intended design and properly programmed operational settings.
Time Grading
Using the time grading function, users can select values to test with the control wheel and perform testing with just the press of a button. The corresponding value and trip time are displayed, and then the wheel allows for user to identify how test results compare to an envelop of acceptable tolerance.
Tests not specifically covered by the control wheel can be set according to desired methods to measure phase, frequency and amplitude. Values can be changed during injection along with synchronization functions as desired.
