Megohmmeter

Connecting your Insulation Test Set

DC Hipots and Megohmmeters are fairly common test sets used by test technicians and engineers.  The basic operation for both a DC Hipot and a Megohmmeter is the same; a known DC voltage is applied across insulation.  The applied potential causes several small currents through and over surfaces of the insulation being tested. The total current is measured and the result is displayed as either an ohmic value or as a current value.

The Basics of Dielectric Absorption Test

Megger 210415 15kV Analog MegohmmeterThe dielectric absorption ratio is the ratio of two time-resistance readings such as a 60-second reading divided by a 30-second reading.  If the ratio is a 10-minute reading divided by a 1-minute reading, the value is called the polarization index. The principle behind the test is that the resistance would increase with time as the capacitive and polarizing currents begin to subside.

Unlike spot tests that are relative to specific conditions such as temperature each time that the test is performed, ratios of insulation resistance (Dielectric Absorption Ratio) that are taken at essentially the same time and temperature require no correction factor for comparison purposes.

Renting the Megger 210415 15kV Analog Megohmmeter Saves Time and Money

Megger 210415 15kV Analog MegohmmeterWhen it comes to measuring resistance on insulation testing on cable insulations and insulation of other electrical devices, renting the Megger 210415 15kV Analog Megohmmeter is a great way to save time and money.

The Megger 210415 is a high voltage Megohmmeter, with a variable output voltage of up to 15 Kilo Volts, and can measure insulation resistances of up to 100,000 Megohms. The test set is capable of conducting dielectric absorption and step voltage tests which makes it ideal in detecting bad insulation spots and bad layers in multi-layered insulators.
