Insulation Resistance

Test Cable Insulation Quickly and Easily with the Megger MIT525

An insulator should have a very high resistance to current, but exposure to temperature fluctuations, electrical and mechanical stress and weathering can cause the development of microscopic cracks, and these crevices can cause contaminants to seep through the insulator. When this happens, the reliability of insulators decreases which may cause problems such as power loss, short circuits, accidental electrocution of personnel and electrical system failure.

Reduce Downtime with the Megger 210415 Megohmmeter

Electrical test meters report electrical circuit properties, such as voltage, resistance, capacitance, and continuity. Available in handheld or benchtop form, they detect electrical problems in equipment, wiring, and power supplies. A variety of probes, clamps, and leads can be used to connect the meter to a circuit or device. Single-function meters, such as battery testers and voltage testers, measure one property of a circuit, and multimeters measure multiple properties. Electrical test meters display information either in analog form using a needle that moves on a calibrated scale, or in digital form on an LED screen.

Routine Testing With the Megger MIT1025 Can Help Keep Insulation Performance at a Safe Level

Much like a leak in a water pipe, an imperfection in the insulation of a wire allows a steady flow of electricity to escape, which can be detrimental to electrical circuits and machinery. However, testing can help you determine if the insulation is performing at an effective and safe level. Routine testing with the Megger MIT1025 10-kV Insulation Resistance Tester 10-kV Insulation Resistance Tester  can identify problems before they result in injury or equipment failure.

Electrical Test Equipment for Insulation Testing

Megger 210415 15kV Analog MegohmmeterTo get the optimal output from your critical electrical system, the most important step is to invest in high-quality, efficient, and reliable electrical test equipment. A lot of issues can come up if the electrical system or device is not regularly diagnosed for potential flaws. Detection of potential flaws at an early stage makes it possible for the user to rectify many minor problems before they become major ones.

Insulation testing is one such practice which should be done regularly in order to maintain and troubleshoot your electrical device. The insulation of a device may degrade owing to various stresses such as thermal stress or electrical stress. If ignored, this degradation can cause severe damage to life and property. One popular method of insulation testing is measuring the resistance offered by it. The higher the resistance offered by the insulation, the better it is.
